The Most Tested Expansion Joints in the Industry

EQIW

Product Description

The EMS Interior Wall Seismic Joint Seal System primarily refers to vertical closure devices used for interior applications. The design features an elastomeric primary seal locked into aluminum edge rails to follow the contour of the building walls. Joint openings from two inches to four inches can be accommodated with a single visual seal. The aluminum retention frames are incorporated into the drywall process; the only evidence of the wall frames is the seal itself with a small metal edge.

Primary wall seals are will accommodate wall-to-wall and wall-to-ceiling applications. The EQIW Series shapes reveal a flush front seal appearance with a centering groove to allow for movement.

Note that the term “seismic” has been used in connection with this product to denote the type of building motion the system can handle.  Other movements influencing the change in width of the joint opening, such as thermal expansion and wind drift, are accommodated as well.

Features and Benefits

  • Ease of Installation – The layout of the anchor holes along the edge of the extrusion is a simple process. The extrusion comes with pre drilled and countersunk holes in the leg to be mounted to the wall.  Set the rail into position, anchor into wall, and set into place.
  • Designed For Flush Application – No bump, flush visual surface application is tapered to allow the drywall compound to cover the extended anchor wing.
  • Tested To ASTM D-1399 – The design was tested to cycle in response to thermal and seismic deflection for 500 cycles the hinged plate will allow for 15° deflection.

Limitations

The sealer’s waterproofing capabilities are dependent on the internal forces generated while the sealer is under compression. For this reason, it is vitally important that proper seal sizing be adhered to, with reference to the constructed joint opening, temperature range and design movement. The sealer will not function on a long term basis if installed improperly.
