Defender Contour Seal

Product Utilization and Description

The EMS Contour Seal, Defender is used behind the backer rod and serves as a dual sealant system when used with a high quality urethane or a silicone joint sealant. It is designed with a bond-breaker for caulk.  When installed in a joint, CSD seals   internal recovery force holds it in place while the sealant compound prevents penetration of air, dust, noise or water. CSD can extend up to 100% and return to seal the joint. It works on a completely different principle from caulk joints and therefore is not subject to the same type of failures.

EMS, CSD foam seal is composed of polyurethane, micro-cell foam waterproofed with a hydrophobic, flame retardant, acrylic polymer compound that is UV stable and chemically resistant.

CSD installed in place of ordinary backer rod performs as a super sealant independent of the surface caulking. The product is designed to provide a permanent, watertight seal and assures protection as a secondary sealer.

The pre-compressed self-adhering material allows for its use in horizontal as well as vertical applications. In areas where dust, water or sounds are a consideration the EMS Contour Seal Defender will respond to (+/-) 50% movement. The top surface of the seal is treated with a bond breaker surface that works well with urethane or silicone caulks.

Used in applications where caulking is to be applied over  critical areas that must remain water tight.
