The Most Tested Expansion Joints in the Industry

AREFC

PRODUCT DATA SHEET

Product Description

The EMS Santoprene® covers are designed especially for areas where floor slabs break to allow movement in the structural slab. The EMS continuous cover seal system bridges the joint gap with minimal preparation for maximum protection. All of the EMS cover seal assembly selections are compliant with the standards of ADA.

The AREFC series edge rails are made from 6061-T5 or 6063-T6 aluminum alloy extrusions that are secured to the floor with hex head concrete screws drilled into the concrete.

Recommended areas for usage include manufacturing facilities, retail spaces, and shopping malls where the finished floor is concrete. Additionally, they are used in architectural applications such as hospitals, airports and schools where the cover must provide safe passage over expansion joint voids and must also accent the interior application.

Optional accents such as color anodize, EPDM-looped moisture barriers are available. Contact EMS for pricing.

Features and Benefits

  • Ease of Installation – The layout of the anchor holes along the edge of the extrusion is a simple process. String line a straight edge parallel to the joint opening. Align the extrusion along the string and drill in the concrete Tap-Con countersunk screws. Clean out all the dust and debris; align the center plate into position.
  • Tested To ASTM D-1399 – The design was tested in compression, tension and deflection for 500 cycles.  No loss of anchors was noted.
  • Seal Meets ADA Dictates – The AREFC-Series profiles are engineered to meet ADA standards for pedestrian concerns.
  • Flat Uniform Closure - This system remains flush during all phases of thermal movement.

Physical Properties

The flexible water shield is made from an EPDM material meeting ASTM C864, with a 1700-psi tensile, 65A durometer hardness and 225% elongation.

The aluminum cover plate is made of ASTM 6061-T5 or 6063-T6 grade material.
