Product Description

The EMS aluminum cover plates are designed especially for areas where flooring meets a wall at an expansion joint location. This aluminum cover plate bridges the joint gap, requiring little preparation for maximum effect. This device, as with all of the EMS cover plate selections, is compliant with the standards of ADA.

The ALHFWC series is made from 6061-T5 or 6063-T6 aluminum alloy that is secured to the wall with metal screw anchors. The face of the plate has pre drilled countersunk screw holes through which drywall anchors or metals screws anchor it to the wall. This provides closure at the juncture between two buildings or perimeter joint details.

Recommended areas for usage include warehouses, manufacturing facilities, retail spaces, and stock rooms where the finished floor meets a joint opening at a wall location. Additionally, they are used in architectural applications where the cover plate must provide safe passage over expansion joint voids and must also accent the interior application.

Features and Benefits

  • Ease of Installation – The layout of the anchor holes along the edge of the plate is a simple process. The hinged plate comes with pre drilled and countersunk holes in the leg to be mounted to the wall. Set the plate into position and mark through the holes. Install anchors into wall and set plate.
  • Designed For Flush Application – No bump, flush walking surface application is tapered to allow safe passage without being a tripping hazard. The slide plate covers the expansion joint opening. As it moves in response to thermal temperature changes, the joint is free to slide both horizontally and vertically.
  • Tested To ASTM D-1399 – The design was tested to cycle in response to thermal and seismic deflection for 500 cycles. The hinged plate will allow for 15° deflection.
  • Seal Meets ADA Dictates – The ALHFWC-Series profiles are engineered to meet ADA standards for pedestrian concerns.

Physical Properties

The optional flexible water shield is made from an EPDM material meeting ASTM C864, with a 1700-psi tensile, 65A durometer hardness and 225% elongation.

The aluminum cover plate is made of ASTM 6061-T5 or 6063-T6 grade material.
